Just a note regarding prepaid Credit Cards. If you don´t want to carry a Card with a healthy Credit Limit while travelling (anywhere). Make sure you have an alternate system in place for emergencies, such as health emergencies.

When my husband had to have emergency surgery in Vallarta in late 2010, we had to put down a Credit Card for the costs and potential costs which amounted to the best part of $10,000 (dollars). They won´t charge you unless your insurance doesn´t cover it (which they check later) but they want it onfile.

We are going to Africa, and will be away 2.5 months, as well as being in several different countries..I have pre-paid all I can, and there is no sure way to reload cards while there. That is why I chose to go with the "many card" option..
BUT,
I also agree, that one reload able card will work, however, it is kind of a pain to transfer, watch, confirm, etc...depending on where you are, Internet availability, etc...
As far as lowering your limit, that doesn't really work...
Most (over 90%) of the "assets" scammed from cloned cards, is NOT taken out at ATMs!
-people use the cards for large purchases, or several medium purchases, usually online, or at places like Costco...
You can lower your cash withdrawal amount, and save a few bucks, but if they max your card out (usually done over a weekend), you are kind of screwed....
I don't know any bank that will just "erase" everything, and let you continue on with your vacation....
Medical expense;
Yes, it is wise to bring a regular card with you. We will for sure have two. But these never see the light of day while out and about. Use them only for situations like that, if you wish to be safe...
Just my opinions.....

I do understand what you are saying about the wife tho!!

I don't impulse buy either, I just carry my daily peso limit and one of the pre paid cards incase we run into family or friends and I need a little more money than the amount I'm carrying.

Yes I do have my regular card for that type of emergency.

But I don't use my regular credit card for random purchases anymore, I had it cloned a few years back in PV and the bank shut my card down which meant I had no credit card until I got back home.

We thought maybe infoleather was a spam poster when we authrorized him/her. Now I'm not sure what s/he is. If there had been any links connected with the posts, s/he would have been gone in a second but nothing that looks like spam, yet.
