What I would hope for is that they would leave the existing pier in place until they have enough funds committed to finish the new one. It is the pain and suffering on the local fishermen/entrepreneurs that bothers me.
I would bet you that there is a reason that this all proceeded as it did. I may be wrong, but it does seem that most projects here are not mishandled in this manner. But there was a severe economic dip in the past years coupled with an extremely destructive summer weather season, and many plans probably had to be altered in midstream.
I do think that it behooves us to really know what happened before we make judgements.
I read a while ago that this project was to be funded with funds fron Federal, State and local authorities. The lack of who pays what might be the reason it took so long to get this far.
Leaving the old pier while the new one was built was not feasible unless they changed the location of the pier. I would think the pier should line up with the street.
