2018 Visit

Postby LJM » Tue Jun 06, 2017 8:55 pm

We are long time winter visitors to PV however this upcoming year we will be staying on the 4th floor of a condo that doesn't have an elevator. We'll have 3-4 suitcases. What would be an appropriate tip for the airport taxi driver to take our bags up to the unit?
Thank in advance.

Personally, I'd tip the driver $200 pesos.

I would check with him before your take the ride. Some do not.

Your building will have a moso who could be arranged to take them up. That is what most of my friends do.

Thank you all for your advice. 200p sounds very reasonable as our building is quite small & has no helpers.

Be sure to ask the taxi driver if he will carry your suitcases up four fights. If I need help with a big/heavy suitcase, I always tell the fellow assigning taxis that I need a driver who is strong and will to carry my suitcase up stairs. A couple of times, the taxi coordinator has discussed my need with a driver and then selected a different one.

I agree to using the taxi dispatcher to make those arrangements for you as my experience is that taxi drivers will not as a rule do this.

Yes I would negotiate with the driver before the trip. 50 pesos per bag and you carry everything you are able to. If the bag is extra heavy/oversized, negotiate accordingly. We had three oversized bags, and our friends who picked us up let us handle those bags. I had no problem with that but it shows how much people do not like lugging bags up stairs.
