I've always heard that there was either road construction or bad road conditions on this route but, in the 5 times I've traveled it, I've never seen anything that was bad for any type of vehicle. Maybe people who are not used to dirt roads would bitch, but no one I know who actually drives on the normal dirt roads here would.

Sure hope you didn't take my question as "Bitching". I was just asking if anyone had an update on the road construction. My wife and I have been going to Mayto now for 5 years. If you have never taken the road from El Tuito to Mayto in the rainy season and hauling a trailer, you have missed and adventure. :D They have been improving this road on a yearly basis thus the question.

Thanks again,

I drove it in March. There was some heavy construction going on then. There is was at least 10 - 15 pieces of heavy equipment working on the road. Some parts might be tricky with a trailer. It looks like they are planning pavement for the entire route. I suspect it might be done by next season.

Well we just returned from our annual trip to Mayto. (March 2013) We found the road to be the best shape it has ever been in the 5-6 years we have been going. There is still plenty of washboard between Tuito and Mayto but we figured it to be about 30-40 mins of the trip. The paved sections out of Tuito and the ones approaching Mayto are getting longer.

The worst part of the paved road was the sections of highway 200 before Mismaloya till just past Boca. Stayed at El Rinconcito with Fernando and Marcella.

They were not severing fresh oysters in Tehua. Well they had them ......but they were very expensive and they were getting them from Vallarta. The weather was great and we had a wonder time

In areas where ther is natural oil seepage, there tends to be microbes of some sort that digest it. Asphalt paved roads in the Oilsand area in Canada tend to disintegrate quicker than elsewhere due to these bugs.
Momma Nature can take care of herself if we remember not to overload her.

We are heading off to El Tuito for the day Tuesday. Not looking forward to the section between Mismaloya and Boca. Going slowly is fine but having idiots pass me is always unnerving.

Lots of traffic on the holidays. Just go slow and enjoy the view and the company.
